When to Pull the Trigger

Those who know us, know we like to get a certain bang for our buck. We also like to be patient about our purchases and confident in what we purchase and why. Well, I (Shiloh) am not a big TV fan in general, though I obviously watch it some and enjoy movies with the family. It also helps to have one for videos and playing wii. But to sink a ton of money into a TV is not my thing. We still own the TV we got with our wedding money 16 years ago this month. It's still good for videos and wii so that's what we've used it for and we're very happy with the bang we got for that buck! The one we replaced it with has had issues the past few months (maybe longer - I don't know). This past week the issues got a lot worse and weren't resolving, though it was still watchable. Anyway... Papa Bear is very good at knowing what we're looking for, and how to make a good decision now that will last us a long time. So he'd been researching and slowly and patiently visiting stores and reading online reviews to see what's out there, what fits us etc and thinking through the timing of when to pull the trigger. We were discussing it, and waiting 'til Christmas or after was definitely something we were considering . . . . and then yesterday morning, the newest symptom almost didn't resolve or recover at all. We began thinking that now might be the time to pull the trigger, so we spoke a little more earnestly about it, and discovered a TV Papa Bear had looked at just the day before had dropped in price $50 . . . . putting it in the "I think this is the TV we want" category (it hadn't been the day before).

Long story short, we bought it, yesterday. Don't ask how much it cost because TV prices are ridiculous, but it was a good deal given what we got and all that. It's worth more than our wedding bands and engagement ring combined. Yikes. If the kids play wii with it and send the nunchuck flying into it and break it I think I'll have a heart attack, but assuming that doesn't happen, it's very nice. So we're rearranging furniture, thinking through our options including location, what we can live without (downsizing outgrown or little used stuff), what furniture (think "TV stand") we might need to purchase, etc. It's fun. The house is cleaner in some ways and messier in others in this transition time, especially given the unexpected timing of it. We are taking the TV with the issues to the dump for certain, maybe even tomorrow. The train table might find a new home, but probably not the trains, and definitely not the cars (they lived under the train table just to clarify). We are thankful for the timing of it all, and we all agree that this is the right TV for us at this point, but there are definite collateral decisions that we will need to work through over the next few weeks. In the meantime, we have a beautiful new TV, so if you want to come over and watch some very nice crisp action with us, come on by!
